Abstract:The class system in America produced major differences between the rich and the poor. Class differences affected what jobs people had, the level of working stress, the likelihood of catching diseases, and the typical diet. But one huge important difference was the quality and style of the house they lived in. In Colonial America architecture reflected differences in the levels of the class system. The goal of this paper is to explore the different architectural styles in Colonial America. 1. Indian Colonial Architecture 2. Spanish Colonial Architecture 3. American Colonial Architecture 4. Dutch Colonial Architecture There were many architectural styles present in colonial America that reflected cultural differences and influences as well as economic status. The indigenous architecture showed the resourcefulness of the Native Americans. Different styles for different classes were seen in American colonial architecture. Spanish colonial examples borrowed from English designs. The Dutch had distinctive architectural elements shared by their different rural and urban houses. From these it can be seen that the various settlers contributed many rich architectural styles and traditions to Colonial America. What would future historians think about our society from studying the variety of architecture we have today?
Interviews:I had an interview with the carpenter at williamsburg. He told me about the different stensiles and carving tools. And he told me about the differences in colonial architecture. And he told me that there were different simbols in architecture that ment things like is u saw a pinapple above a door that ment hospitality and there were many other signs because alot of poeple in colonial times didnt know how to read so there were many picture signs to represent different things.
